Yearmark turns a single year into a poster you can read in ten seconds and want to share. Here is what it is, how to use it, and answers to the questions people ask most.

What is Yearmark?

Yearmark is a free browser app that prints a stylized poster of any year between 1950 and 2020. Each poster gathers the moments that defined a year — the number-one song, the biggest movie at the box office, a handful of the events people still remember, a well-known person born that year, and what a few everyday things cost — and lays them out as one clean, screenshot-worthy card.

It is built for a very human moment: seeing the world as it was the year you were born, the year you left school, or the year something mattered to you. There is no account, no install, and no personal information to enter. You pick a year; Yearmark does the rest.

How to use it

1. Open Yearmark. The homepage shows a timeline running from 1950 to 2020 and a sample poster so you can see what you are about to make.
2. Slide to a year. Drag the timeline, tap a decade shortcut (50s through 20s), or use your keyboard’s arrow keys once the slider is focused. The year you are on is shown in large type as you move.
3. Read the poster. When you land on a year we have curated, the poster fills in with that year’s top song and movie, three key events, its leader, a notable birth, two prices, and a fun fact.
4. Share or save it. Once the poster export lands you will be able to download it as an image or share it straight to your apps, footer and all, so a friend can make their own.

Every poster has its own web address, like /1985, so a link opens exactly that year for whoever you send it to.

Tips

• Start with your birth year. It is the fastest way to feel what Yearmark does, and it is the version most people want to share.
• Watch the decade change. Compare a 1955 poster with a 2015 one — each is styled in the look of its era, not a single template.
• Use the decade buttons to travel fast. Tapping 90s jumps you straight there instead of dragging across seventy years.
• Try nearby years. If a year is not ready yet, Yearmark points you to the closest curated year with a single tap.
• Bookmark a link. Because each year has its own URL, you can save or send the exact poster you liked.
• Screenshot on a phone. The poster is sized to look great saved from a phone screen if you prefer that to the download button.

FAQ

Is it free? Yes, completely. Yearmark is supported by ads and costs nothing to use.

Do I need an account? No. There is no sign-up and no login. You never type any personal details — you only pick a year.

Which years can I make? We offer about two dozen carefully curated years spread across 1950–2020, and we are adding more over time. If a year is not ready, Yearmark offers you the nearest one that is.

Where do the facts come from? Each year is compiled from several public sources — year-end music charts, box-office records, historical timelines, and price histories — and rewritten in our own words. See the “About the data” note for details.

Are the posters real album or movie artwork? No. Every poster is original artwork built from type, color, and pattern. We reference titles as facts but never reproduce copyrighted images.

Does it work on my phone? Yes. Yearmark is designed mobile-first and works in any modern browser without installing anything.

Every year in Yearmark is compiled from multiple public sources — year-end popular-music charts, box-office records, general historical timelines, and published price histories — and then rewritten in our own concise words. We aim for accuracy and pick widely reported facts, but small figures such as historical prices are approximate averages and are marked as such.

All poster artwork is original. Yearmark never reproduces album covers, movie posters, photographs, or any copyrighted or trademarked images. Titles and names appear only as short factual references; the look of each poster is built entirely from our own type, color, and pattern in the style of the era.
